Shirley Quaid
Award winning artist, Shirley Quaid, developed an interest in the Old West at an early age. Her mind now meanders to the character and fortitude of the past as she concentrates her paintings on the late 1880's.
Rather than the traditional Western art of cowboys on horseback, she often offers impeccable depictions in portrait form showing the interplay of light and shadows. She paints from models dressed in historically appropriate clothing accurate to the late 1880's. Her models are students of the period, and she researches clothing, furniture and weaponry to add authenticity to the work. It is important that the portrayals be true to the people of the time. She loves to paint children of the period and wild horses also find their way onto Quaid's canvas. Individual personalities are prominent in these paintings.
She has exhibited her work for four years in the Bosque Art Classic and has been juried into other national shows.
She has studied with many well-known artists and paints daily in her rural Oklahoma studio. She is honored that her work is in collections all over the nation and internationally.
